The two of the most time-consuming tasks in the diamond core drilling – the holes for the cast-in-situ piles at the Kurskaya Station of Moscow Railroad and drilling for the foundations in Moscow City. In either case, to fit the geology and strengthen the soils, the holes of 200-250 mm diameter and 1-1,2 m depth were drilled, always angled.
The work was performed in phases, but every stage had to be completed in a short time, so as not to hold up the geology contractor, and the scope of work and the schedule were not known beforehand. The work had to be done upon request which would come today, and tomorrow we already needed to be at the site.
Such tasks are a good illustration of our approach. We stress exclusively the efficiency of the process, not the quantity of the equipment and of the personnel. The “round up enough people” approach, so to say, doesn’t work here, not at that type of site: it is simply not efficient economically because it creates many additional problems which would need to be solved on tight schedule for each added team of operators. The powerful and high-performance equipment was required – the maximal productivity per shift per machine! The other important factor is the mobility of equipment. Distances one had to walk, relocating everything necessary, were enormous. In one day people logged in multiple kilometers, moving equipment around the site.
Diamondtech Construction operates on the principle of creating maximally comfortable and safe working conditions to the extent the core drilling industry allows. This is why, when looking for power, our company considers exclusively electric systems not burdened by heavy hydraulic pumps and hoses.
The solution came from Estonia. Powerful 15 kW brushless electric technology Cuttronix is the perfect fit for our company requirements. The weight comparable to the widely used 3-phase systems, combined with the power of hydraulic systems, a drill stand with the possibility of adjusting the angle in either direction from the perpendicular, and the incredible RPM allowing to work with a soft segment without the loss of segment lifetime – all this is Cuttronix! Drilling of holes of 225 mm diameter in 1 meter-thick concrete with heavy armature took between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the steel, and the average life resource of the segment from an Austrian supplier was 12 meters.
In Diamondtech Construction’s opinion, these are very good results! During the entire job more than 500 such holes have been drilled. And very rarely the second drill rig and the third employee could be seen at the site. Minimum required personnel, maximum the powerful and high-tech equipment!
